Final Project: Haptics and Optics
"F**k Your Booby Standards"
For this project, we were challenged with finding a problem or a subject that we truly passionate about and make propaganda for it. We were tasked with using an element of photo in our piece that properly represented our subject. We also, in addition to the poster, had to make iterations of the concept. For my concept, I really wanted to focus on the unrealistic standards for Women and their bodies, specifically the standard for boobs. The bra industry truly makes it difficult for women with bigger breasts to purchase bras that fit them. The bra industry also advertises one boob size and one body size, which is ridiculous. All women are different and all boobs are different. So, f**k the booby standards.
For the poster, I used a scanner to create the tiled background of bras, scanning each one in individual and editing them in photoshop to make a collage. I then used Autodesk Sketchbook on my iPad to create the illustrations on top. I wanted the color choice to be bold and eye catching, so came my choice of blue and red.
For my iterations of my poster, I chose to make stickers and buttons. I wanted to mass produce something that everyone could display and easily disperse. I also wanted to make something that could appeal to the younger crowd as well as the older crowd so some are more graphic in their illustration quality and some are more dainty.
Here are my poster and iterations in the wild/displayed on my friend. I've since dispersed the majority of my stickers and explained my concept to a lot of my MICA peers. So, far I've got a lot of agreement and support in my claim. I'm hoping to do more work with this campaign in the future.
